Airborn News

So Uganda was sick.

After the season was over on the Ottawa, it was time to head somewhere warm. With the fast approaching completion of the Silverback dam, near Jinja, just downriver from the headwaters of the Nile this was going to be the last chance to paddle some amazing rapids that I didn't want to miss.
So after working till the start of December I was getting a bit to stirr crazy and headed abroad. I spend 2 weeks Eurotripping from Amsterdam to Sarajevo in Bosnia and back... got to love living on trains.

By the 22nd of December fellow Airborn member, Scott Borthwick, was free of school for a bit and flew to Entebbe, Uganda where I meet him in the airport. From there we headed for the river. Spent the first week at the Hairy Lemon, pretty much the best place to spend Christmas. The river level was much lower then expected but was still great. Club wave was where it was at in the moring and by mid afternoon it was up to Nile special. With low water though it brings out Hair of the Dog wave which was sick, definitely the best surfing of the trip.
Once new years came along we headed back to NRE. Had a sick New year's eve at NRE and down at a local club in Jinja. The week spent at NRE was all about river running. Did the whole section twice, back channels a whole wack of times and the sorter sections filled in the gaps. Highlights included two runs of dead dutchman, Itunda, kalagala and denting my boat on Bladerunner.
Then Scott, American Sam, English Chris and myself head up to Murchison falls with our sick van and driver Abdule. Saw all the animals, northern Uganda and a sick waterfall. Then back for some more paddling and good times before heading back to the depth of Winter.
Sick time for sure, personal freestyle and river runing progression was so good and just a lot of fun.
