The Ottawa River was the place to be on the Labour Day long weekend this year. The Pan American Championships, hosted by Wilderness Tours and Ottawa Kayak School took place with over 50 competitors. Due to the low water levels, the rodeo was on push button giving the competitors to take their ride on the wave or hole above it. Despite the weather, the event was a great success. There were Jr/Sr Men, Jr/Sr Woman and a C1 category. Stephen Wright took 1st in the Mens Pro followed by Eric Jackson, Joel Kowalski and Devyn Scott. Ruth Gordon, Emily Jackson and Katie Quinn placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the Woman's Pro category. In the Junior Mens Dane Jackson took 1st place who was followed behind by Adam Chappell and Kalob Grady. Top 3 for the Junior Woman was Lauren Burress taking 1st place with Jessica Droujko (2nd) and Sara-Jane Daub (3rd) just behind. Lastly the C1 category was a competition between Dane Jackson (1st), Jordan Poffenberger (2nd), Eric Jackson (3rd) and Francois Bergeron-Prouix (4th). Thank you to all the competitors competing in the event and will hope to see all back next year. Check the Ottawa Kayak and Wilderness Tours website for details.
Special thanks to the sponsors of the event: Wilderness Tours, Ottawa Kayak School, Kokatat, SnapDragon, Level Six, Jackson Kayak, Hydro Quebec, Ontario Power Generation and ICFIC.
